Lessons learnt – future practice
I took part in the Open Network
Learning for the first time. And I would say I was really surprised in a nice
way. Actually if I would know that this course would be so intensive – I wouldn’t
take part in it. Unfortunately I joined this course only on second topic. And it
was very hard to understand everything and get to know. I was thinking even to
give up. I am very thankful to our Lithuanian team, who really helped me and explained
everything, and pushed me to continue. Therefore I could continue till the end.
At the beginning I was like a passive attendee, while later on switched to more
active. I liked seminars of our PBL13 group, where we could discuss. I even bought
video camera for the computer and new headphones that I could not only listen but
could talk and discuss with other colleagues too. In previous blog I wrote that
I really liked the way how topics were presented, I liked webinars and our
small meetings. It is good to have practice. But it happened that those who are
better or are more active took initiatives to do most of the work. Just for
thinking – maybe it would be good to do an exercise for individual person – to prepare
one lesson on chosen topic? But it takes time to watch all those topics… During
all course I was thinking how to prepare my lesson, what tools to take, what technique
to use, how to present? And I still think very seriously about it. I miss this
concrete knowledge. It is nice, that we in a rather short time need to start to
prepare whole course on biotechnology. It will be the best practice to use our
recent knowledge. And big challenge too.
Another challenge will be to
explain and motivate teachers to look to the possibility to prepare courses
online. I believe that the world universities (education) future is online
education. I am not sure about laboratory works – it would be nice to make such
lessons online, while you can learn theoretically such things, for eg. what to
put first in to the beaker – water or acid, or how many milliliters add material,
but to handle by your one the pipet or prepare the preparation in proper way
without practice – it is not so easy… We will see in near future how it will
works.
Let's see how you can apply this to the FOCUS courses we will be developing next year!
